Questions & clarity

Frequently asked questions

This page collects the questions I’m asked most often about websites, uptime, ownership, and how we work together. If you don’t see your situation here, you’re always welcome to reach out and ask.

My sites are intentionally built with as few failure points as possible. That means I avoid fragile plugin stacks where one update can take everything offline.

Your site is hand-crafted, lightweight, and stable. In practice, that often means:

  • No dependency on a long list of plugins or add-ons just to function.
  • Clean, well-structured templates that don’t break when the internet shifts.
  • Sites that tend to stay online for years, until you decide to update, relaunch, or move them.

Uptime comes from intentional simplicity, not constant firefighting. That’s part of what you’re investing in when we work together.

Yes. You own your site and its files.

When I build for you, I structure things so your website is portable:

  • You receive the site files (or appropriate export) at hand-off.
  • You can host with me, with your preferred provider, or change hosts in the future.
  • You aren’t locked into one platform or vendor for your site to keep working.

My goal is for your website to feel like a house you own, not an apartment you can be pushed out of when your landlord changes the rules.

You can work with me in two ways:

  • Design & build only – I create the site and collateral and you (or your team) handle hosting, domains, and email.
  • One-stop digital foundation – I help you set up or manage the pieces that support your site: domains, hosting, business email, security, and basic email marketing foundations.

Many small business owners want “one person to call” when something touches their online presence. I can be that person, while still giving you the freedom to move providers later if you choose.

The specifics depend on the scope, but a typical project includes:

  • 1. Discovery & clarity – A quiet, focused conversation where we identify your core offer, audience, and what “done” looks like.
  • 2. Structure & messaging – I map page structure, navigation, and key messages, then confirm with you before design moves forward.
  • 3. Design & build – I design and develop your site or collateral, sharing key checkpoints instead of constant noise.
  • 4. Review & refinements – We walk through the experience together, refine language and layout, and confirm technical details.
  • 5. Launch & hand-off – Your site goes live with a simple next-steps outline so you know how to use what we’ve built.

A one-page Brand Launch Kit is usually ~1 week with a clear window. Larger sites or intranet-style spaces can span several weeks depending on complexity and content readiness.

I use transparent, project-based pricing. On your main site, you’ll see starting points like:

  • Brand Launch Kit (1-Week) – $1,500 USD
  • Websites & Intranet-style Experiences – starting at $2,500 USD
  • Marketing Collateral Suite – starting at $650 USD

For the branding kits and any cost less than $1,500, the entire cost must be paid up front to secure your launch dates. For all other projects greater than $1,500, I request a non-refundable deposit of $1,500, with the remaining balance due at key milestones or at launch. Payment schedules are clearly outlined before we begin so there are no surprises.

My hourly rate for ongoing updates, refinements, and technical support is $65/hr.

As a senior developer with specialized experience, I’m able to accomplish in one focused hour what often takes others several—meaning you get high-impact work with less time billed.

Client hosting perk: If I am both your designer/content creator and you are hosted with me, eligible services are billed in 15-minute intervals.

All other support is scheduled with a 1-hour minimum—and I typically get a surprising amount done in that hour.

All materials in the Brand Launch Kit follow one unified theme for a cohesive, polished look.

If you want a completely different aesthetic or expanded brand direction, that can be created through the Marketing Collateral Suite add-on.

I take a strategic, simplicity-first approach to technology. I’m well-versed in a diversified set of programming languages, data structures, and enterprise environments, but I always choose the cleanest, most sustainable stack for your long-term success.

  • Custom interfaces and dashboards designed within enterprise platforms using native capabilities for clarity, governance, and operational flow.
  • Lightweight automations and integrations applied where they streamline processes — not where they add noise or technical debt.
  • Data-driven structures and visualizations that transform information into clarity, helping teams make informed decisions and monitor progress.
  • Broad technical fluency that allows me to collaborate with IT teams, adapt to unique environments, and solve complex problems as needed.

Whether simple or layered, my builds prioritize stability, clarity, minimal breakpoints, and solutions that age gracefully.

Absolutely. Most people struggle with writing their own message — it’s the number one thing clients delay, and it’s completely normal. When you’re close to your work, it can be hard to put it into clear, confident language.

I’ve created hundreds of websites, dashboards, and digital spaces, and the words are always where clarity begins. Whether you arrive with polished copy, scattered notes, or a rough idea, I can help shape it into messaging that feels honest, grounded, and easy to understand.

I help with:

  • Extracting your core message even when you’re unsure how to articulate it.
  • Organizing content into an audience-friendly structure.
  • Refining headlines, sections, and calls-to-action so your site communicates effortlessly.
  • Capturing your voice while improving clarity, tone, and flow.

To create a smoother, more peaceful experience, I also offer an optional copy refinement upgrade so you don’t have to stress over “what do I say?” Your message is my specialty — and I’m here to make this part feel effortless.

If you have an existing writer or comms partner, I can collaborate with them too.

After launch, you’ll receive:

  • A simple hand-off guide outlining how to use and update what I’ve built.
  • Access to your files and logins as appropriate for your setup.

If you prefer not to manage updates alone, I can arrange lightweight ongoing support such as quarterly check-ins, scheduled updates, or small enhancements as your work evolves.

I don’t believe in keeping you dependent, but I also don’t disappear the moment your site goes live.

For hosting-related emergencies, my clients have access to 24/7 technical support through the hosting platform. This covers issues such as server outages, DNS disruptions, email failures, or anything requiring backend intervention that cannot wait.

On the development studio side, if something urgent comes up with your website, hosting, email, or digital systems, my clients can reach me directly by text message. I respond based on the severity and timing of the issue. True emergencies—such as your site unexpectedly going offline or a critical access failure—will be prioritized accordingly.

For non-urgent needs, a quick text or email is always welcome, and I’ll follow up during standard business hours so we can address it thoroughly and without unnecessary rush.

We’re likely a good fit if any of these feel true:

  • You’re carrying a message, service, or mission that deserves a clearer container.
  • You value stability, peace, and long-term clarity more than chasing trends.
  • You want a collaborator who understands both systems and story, not just one or the other.

If you’re unsure, the easiest next step is a quiet conversation. Share where you are, what you’re hoping for, and we’ll see together if this is the right season—and the right match—for us to build something.
